Tika (update)

UPDATE: Our sweet miss TIKA is a 7.5 year old, 80lb female Husky/Shepherd that has been looking for her forever family for 4 months now. Tika was adopted out by us 4 years ago and was recently returned after her owners had a baby and could no longer care for her the way she needs. This is super sad for Tika because she absolutely adores children and would be thrilled to have some kiddos of her very own to shower with love and protection. Tika has recently been on two school visits and absolutely comes alive when the kids shower her with their affection. All she wants in this life is ALL THE SNUGGLES. Tika was quite stiff in her hind end when she came back to the shelter so we got her x-rayed at the vet clinic and it was found that she has some mild arthritis. We’ve started her on cartrophen injections to make her comfortable and they are working well. She will need to continue with the cartrophen going forward, that cost is approximately $40 every 2 months. A small price to pay for a comfortable and happy pooch! Tika is looking for a low energy family that enjoys tones of snuggles and leisurely walks or hanging out in the yard. She has been enjoying regular town walks with a couple of our volunteers. She enjoys sniffing new locations, she can handle long walks just isn’t up for high impact activities.Tika is looking for a home as an only pet as she has high prey drive for small animals and no tolerance for rude dogs. Tika’s ideal family will have her as an only pet and would have a well fenced yard either in town or in the country where she can be the spoiled princess she’s always dreamed of being. Although Tika is looking for an only pet home, she is not horrendous with other dogs. She has been able to make quite a few dog friends over the months she’s been at the shelter. Tika can interact well with calm and respectful dogs and is easy to walk in most areas. Her issues only arise if another dog approaches her in a rude manner or tries to start an altercation. Even with her calm and friendly buddies… she doesn’t want to be with them ALL the time, she loves the idea of a friend for walks that then goes home. This way Tika can ensure she gets all the snuggles once she is home. Tika might not enjoy pack walks, dog parks, strange dogs rushing up to her on the street or vigorous hikes but she will love her family with her entire heart. Tika will lovingly stare at you with her soulful eyes, she will light up every single time you come home and she will absolutely never turn down a snuggle. She is clean, respectful and non destructive indoors. Tika rides well in the vehicle after a few minutes of excitement and she walks well on the leash unless there is a squirrel tempting her attention away from you. She is spayed, vaccinated and up to date on parasite control. Due to Tika’s age and her need for catrophen injections we have decided to REDUCE HER ADOPTION FEE.
