Lucky

FOR ADOPTION: LUCKY is a super fun 11 month old, 60lb, female, mixed breed that is looking for an active and mature household. Lucky’s dream family has at least one person that does field work and is able to bring her with them for long days in the bush. They would spend their off time cuddling or out on adventures and they would not be planning to have kids in the near future. Lucky is a very sweet girl that came to us undersocialzed but eager to learn. Lucky and her mother Tanzey were abandoned by their original owner when Lucky was just a young puppy. Local bylaw officers and the new home residents did what they could to keep the dogs fed but they were not able to provide any training or socialization. Lucky is quickly catching up on her social skills since arriving at the shelter. She has learnt how to politely greet new dogs and is quite comfortable with the new adults she meets. Children are still quite scary for this girl, we continue to set up safe and positive interactions for Lucky with our younger volunteers but she prefers the company of adults. Lucky has learned that car rides are fun and lead to adventures with her humans. If she had her way she would ride in the passenger seat but a leash easily keeps her in the back. Lucky has been able to participate in training classes with CDN K9 B.C. Dog Training and one of our main caretakers and is building confidence and skills quite rapidly. She is taking on every new command quite eagerly but excels at sit, down and recall. Lucky enjoys the company of other dogs and would do well with some playful buddies. She is quite interested in cats and could probably learn to chase them if given the chance. That being said she is very easily directed when around the cats and, if introduced properly, would be able to live easily with some cat friends. Lucky does suffer from separation anxiety. She will get loud when she is left alone, can easily climb chain link fences of any height and will need a strong kennel to keep her safe when she’s home alone. Once she is settled in to a new environment she does relax while being alone and having another dog home with her does help her settle. Lucky is very smart and eager to engage in training of any type. She could be a very fun sporting dog if her humans are into that. Lucky has a solid medium to high energy level. She’s not going to be a happy couch potato, this girl wants to get out and be active. If you’re into hiking, jogging, cycling, mountain biking, skiing etc Lucky could be the adventure buddy you’re looking for. Lucky is spayed, vaccinated and up to date on parasite control.
