Dudley

FOR ADOPTION: DUDLEY is a 5 year old,
85lb, male lab mix looking for a dog savvy, Moderately active forever family. This big beautiful Boy comes to us from a home living with a woman with dementia. She loved her dogs (Dudley has a brother named Buddy who also has already been adopted) and Dudley was her favourite
So he is used to soaking up all sorts of love and affection. Dudley wakes up each morning happy and ready to take on the day and he is a fantastic cuddle buddy. As his previous owner’s dementia progressed she started vastly over feeding the dogs and she was not at all consistent in any type of training. This resulted in Dudley becoming a very heavy and unruly dog. Dudley tore his ACL while in his home. With the help of his previous owner’s daughter we got Dudley down to a respectable weight through diet and exercise and were able to have his ACL repair surgery done at Babine Animal Hospital. He has healed well but our vet has said he should never be an overly active dog. Hiking, long walks, swimming etc are all great sports for Dudley but he is not a candidate for jogging, running beside a bicycle etc. He should also be careful getting in and out of vehicles or on and off high beds. Dudley has lived very well with his brother as well as the dogs in his foster home. He can be possessive of his toys and food but is easily corrected by his humans. He lived with a cat in his previous home but has developed a strong desire to chase cats while in his foster home so we think he would do best in a home free of small animals. Dudley is still working on his training as he did not have much for the first 5 years of his life. He has good house manners and knows sit. His recall is not great yet and he should be on leash outside of a fenced area (he did join some neighbour kids on a bike ride while in foster care) and he still needs work on his leash skills. That being said Dudley is highly food motivated and eager to please and learn. His foster family has been focusing on getting him healed over any major training but he has the potential to learn well. Dudley has been exposed to horses at his foster home and could live with them again but he has killed a chicken in his past and will not be a great true farm Dog. He absolutely loves going for rides in the vehicle and is a friendly social boy. He has been good and gentle with my kids aged 4 and 6. He loves toys especially stuffed animals and he will gently pack around his favourite toys. He is house trained, kennel trained and non destructive. Dudley is neutered, vaccinated and up on parasite control. If you’ve been looking for a big lovable boy and have time to dedicate to training apply today for a chance to meet DUDLEY
